Last updated on November 2, 2022This data glossary contains the explanations for the data elements found in the Portable Copy of Data report. Please note that the Portable Copy of Data report from your device may not contain all of the terms below, dependent on your app and device data settings. This glossary is updated periodically and therefore may not be a comprehensive list at any given time.

- Indicates whether the user has accepted the website Terms of Use.
- active -
- Indicates if user is active or not.
- addr -
- An email address for a wunderground.com account.
- address -
- The street address of a Personal Weather Station and its owner.
- admin -
- Indicates whether a user is a Weather Underground administrator or not.
- ads -
- Shows if a user has an account that would enable ad blocking.
- agree -
- Shows if a user agrees to our terms or not.
- allowMessages -
- A consent field that indicates whether the user has given consent to receive messages or not
- allowmessages -
- A consent field that denotes whether the user has given consent to receive messages or not
- allowNews -
- Indicates if a user has consented to receive newsletters from the Weather Underground.
- allownews -
- Indicates if a user has consented to receive newsletters from the Weather Underground.
- altEmail -
- A user's alternative encrypted email address used for login and communication.
- appTill -
- Shows how much time is left until paid app privileges will expire.
- assetId -
- A unique identifier for a piece of weather equipment (asset) owned by a Weather Underground user, such as a weather webcam, a personal weather station, or a personal air quality station.
- assetType -
- A type of weather equipment (asset) owned by a Weather Underground user; examples of asset types include weather webcams, personal weather stations, and air quality stations.
- assoc_station_id -
- The identifier for the Personal Weather Station associated with a camera.
- assocStationId -
- The identifier (ID) for the Personal Weather Station associated with a particular weather webcam.
- auth -
- Shows the authentication method used to validate a user.
- AuthCode -
- The code used to validate an email address change.
C
- cameratype -
- The brand or model of a webcam in the Weather Underground camera system.
- camid -
- A code or unique identifier for a webcam in the Weather Underground camera system.
- camindex -
- A list of webcams that are operated by a single wunderground.com user.
- chan -
- Indicates whether app alerts and notifications are being sent via the iOS, Android or Amazon messaging systems; the messaging system corresponds with the user's device platform.
- city -
- The city that a Personal Weather Station or a Weather Underground webcam is located in.
- comp -
- Indicates if a Weather Underground account is complimentary (free) or not. A value of "1" means it is complimentary; a value of "0" means it is not complimentary.
- country -
- The country that a Personal Weather Station or a Weather Underground webcam is located in.
- created -
- Indicates the time that has elapsed since a user created his or her Weather Underground account. The time is presented in a computer time format called Epoch, which is the which is the number of milliseconds elapsed since 1970. To convert Epoch to standard time, search online for an "epoch time converter."
- createdTimestamp -
- The data and time when a weather.com account was created.
D
- daac-toast-view-date -
- Indicates the time and date a user was shown a notice about Canada data privacy regulations.
- daac-toast-viewed -
- A value that indicates a user was shown a notice about Canada data privacy regulations; a user will not be shown the notice again as long as the value indicates the user was shown the notice previously.
- date -
- The time and date the user ID for the app was created – or the time and date the user ID was reset. A user ID identifies a unique user of the app. The user ID is automatically created when the app is installed.
- DateChanged -
- The last date that the user's email address was changed.
- desc -
- A description of a camera being used in the Weather Undergound system.
- downloaded -
- This field shows the time when the image(s) from a camera were last downloaded by the Weather Underground system.

- elev -
- The elevation of a Personal Weather Station.
- email -
- A user's primary encrypted email address used for login and communication.
- emailOptIn -
- Shows if a user has consented to receiving Weather Underground emails or not.

- favs -
- The list of identifiers that the user has picked as their favorite.
- first_report_date -
- The first date the user's Personal Weather Station reported weather data.
- firstReportDate -
- The first date the user's Personal Weather Station reported weather data.
- frequency -
- Shows how frequently a given camera sends weather data.
- fv -
- The first page a user viewed on wunderground.com.
G
- gdpr-toast-viewed -
- GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation, a European privacy law. According to this law, when a website plans to change its Privacy Policy, it must notify European users of this change beforehand. The "gdpr-toast-viewed" field shows whether a user has seen a GDPR-mandated privacy policy change notice from Weather Underground.
- geoIPCountry -
- The country code of the location where the user is located according to the user's IP address.
- giftCode -
- A Weather Underground subscription gift code; this is the code the user was given to get a membership. Gift codes are no longer available.
- giftNum -
- A numeric value associated with a Weather Underground membership gift code.
- goldstar_status -
- Indicates if the user's Personal Weather Station passed Weather Underground's most stringent quality control.
- goldStarStatus -
- Indicates if the user's Personal Weather Station passed Weather Underground's most stringent quality control.
- goodTill -
- Indicates the time remaining until the account will expire.
H
- handle -
- A unique identifier or "handle" for Weather Underground cameras or Personal Weather Stations; a handle can be created by a user or auto-generated by Weather Underground.
- hash -
- Internal identifiers for a webcam.
- height -
- The height of a Personal Weather Station from the ground as it is displayed to the public.
- hexAnt -
- Internal identifiers for a webcam.
- hexId -
- Internal identifiers for a webcam.
I
- ianaTimeZone -
- The timezone a device is set to; IANA stands for Internet Assigned Numbers Authority.
- ID -
- A unique code that identifies a user of The Weather Channel.
- id -
- A unique identifier for a Personal Weather Station.
- imageUrl -
- The URL, or link, for a Weather Underground webcam video recording.
- inactiveMsg -
- Indicates if the user has consented to let Weather Underground send data informing the user his or her station is offline.
- inactivemsg -
- Indicates if the user has consented to let Weather Underground send data informing the user his or her station is offline
- isActive -
- Indicates whether a user is active or not.
- isRecent -
- Indicates if a specified webcam has sent data to wunderground.com recently (approximately within the last day). A value of "1" means yes; "2" means no.
- isrecent -
- Indicates whether a weather camera or Personal Weather Station has sent data to Weather Underground in the last day; a value of 1 indicates "yes" and a value of 0 indicates "no."
- isWuCam -
- Indicates if a webcam is the personal webcam of an individual or if it is publicly operated webcam from sources such as a state department of transportation.
K
- keyUsed -
- Indicates whether a user with a Personal Weather Station (PWS) used an upload key instead of a password to upload their PWS data to wunderground.com. Users are given upload keys when they sign up to have their station be part of the Weather Underground webcam system. A value of "1" means they used an upload key; "0" means they didn't use a key.

- language -
- The language being used on a device.
- last_email_epoch -
- The time the Weather Underground last emailed a user. The time is presented in a computer time format called Epoch, which is the number of milliseconds elapsed since 1970. To convert Epoch to standard time, search online for an "epoch time converter."
- last_not_reporting_epoch -
- The time we last received an observation from your Personal Weather Station. The time is presented in a computer time format called Epoch, which is the number of milliseconds elapsed since 1970. To convert Epoch to standard time, search online for an "epoch time converter."
- last_update_epoch -
- The time that a weather camera or Personal Weather Station last updated weather data diaplayed to the public. The time is presented in a computer time format called Epoch, which is the number of milliseconds elapsed since 1970. To convert Epoch to standard time, search online for an "epoch time converter."
- lastEmailEpoch -
- The time the Weather Underground last emailed a user. The time is presented in a computer time format called Epoch, which is the number of milliseconds elapsed since 1970. To convert Epoch to standard time, search online for an "epoch time converter."
- lastLogin -
- Shows how long it has been since a user last logged in.
- lastNotReportingEpoch -
- The time the Weather Underground last received an observation from a user's Personal Weather Station. The time is presented in a computer time format called Epoch, which is the number of milliseconds elapsed since 1970. To convert Epoch to standard time, search online for an "epoch time converter."
- LastPoll -
- The last time The Weather Channel or Weather Underground data storage system checked itself to see the status of a Data Subject Rights (DSR) request. A DSR request may take up to 30 days; the system does periodic checks to monitor the fulfillment status of the request.
- lastUpdateEpoch -
- The time that a weather camera or Personal Weather Station last updated weather data diaplayed to the public. The time is presented in a computer time format called Epoch, which is the number of milliseconds elapsed since 1970. To convert Epoch to standard time, search online for an "epoch time converter."
- lat -
- The latitude of a Personal Weather Station or a Weather Underground webcam.
- link -
- A URL, or link, that a user entered in his or her profile that is displayed with the user's Personal Weather Station or webcam.
- linkText -
- A description of a URL, or link, that a user entered in his or her profile that is displayed with the user's Personal Weather Station (PWS) or webcam.
- locale -
- Indicates the locale -- language and country -- selected by a user.
- lon -
- The longitude of a Personal Weather Station or a Weather Underground webcam.
M
- mode -
- Indicates the type of Weather Underground account-- whether it is a paid or free account.
N
- name -
- The name of The Weather Channel data storage system that was used to fulfill a Data Subject Rights Request.
- neighborhood -
- The neighborhood location of a weather camera or Personal Weather Station.
- NewEmail -
- A new email address that was updated from another email address.
- noAdsTill -
- The time remaining until an account's ad blocking privileges will expire.
O
- OldEmail -
- A previous or old email address associated with a user's Weather Underground account.
- organization -
- Indicates the organization a Personal Weather Station is affiliated with, if applicable.
P
- partner_id -
- This shows the network that the station belongs to: WU = weather underground
- partnerId -
- This is the Partner Identifier. It indicates the network that a Personal Weather Station is on. The value is WU for Weather Underground, unless the user joins another network, like a private network for agriculture etc.
- prefs -
- Shows a user's preferences, including cookies and favorite cities.
- price -
- The price for a user's ad-free account.
- pricePaid -
- The price a user paid to sign up for a Weather Underground ad-free service.
- primary -
- Displays the user's Account information.
- processed -
- Indicates if data storage data was returned in response to a Data Subject Rights Request. "True" means data was returned; "false" means data was not returned.
- product -
- Indicates the products that are associated with a user's profile. For example, a value of "web NoAds" means that a user has a subscription (product) that provides an ad-free experience.
Q
- queue -
- A non-unique identifier for a webcam, it is used for internal processing.
R
- referer -
- An empty field; does not contain user data.
S
- secondary -
- A Personal Weather Station's account settings.
- services_data -
- Shows the current The Weather Channel app alerts/notifications a user has signed up for. If the user has not signed up for any alerts/notifications, the field will be blank.
- signupDate -
- The date the user ID for the app was created – or the date the user ID was reset. A user ID identifies a unique user of the app. The user ID is automatically created when the app is installed.
- signUpMethod -
- Indicates the method a user used to sign up for a Weather Underground account. Values are numbers that represent the different sign-up methods.
- signUpMode -
- Shows how a user signed up for a Weather Underground account.
- signUpRef -
- The URI (identifier) of the page where the user signed up for a Weather underground account.
- smurfs -
- Indicates if a user is a premium subscriber receiving ad-free service.
- softwareType -
- The type of software used by the Personal Weather Station to send weather data to Weather Underground.
- softwaretype -
- The type of software used by the Personal Weather Station to send weather data to Weather Underground.
- speedpin -
- A cookie that is set to help gauge the network speed available to the user; this helps deliver a better experience.
- start_date -
- The first date a weather camera or Personal Weather Station sent weather data it collected to Weather Underground.
- startDate -
- The start date of operation for a Personal Weather Station or a webcam.
- state -
- The state that a Personal Weather Station or a Weather Underground webcam is located in.
- stationType -
- The make and model of a Personal Weather Station.
- stationtype -
- The make and model of a Personal Weather Station.
- Status -
- The status of a requested email address change.
- status -
- Two definitions: [1] Indicates if a user has a valid Weather Underground account or not. [2] The status of a requested email address change.
- status_code -
- Indicates if a user alerts/notifications profile (for receiving alerts about severe weather, rain, etc.) was found and copied from a weather.com data storage system. A status of "200" means that yes, a weather.com alerts profile was found and copied; a status of "204" means no, a weather.com alerts profile was not found and copied.
- statuscode -
- Indicates if Premium subscription information was found and copied from a weather.com data storage system. A status of "200" means that yes, Premium subscription information was found and copied; a status of "204" means no, Premium subscription information was not found and copied.
- surfaceType -
- The type of surface that a Personal Weather Station is located on, such as grass, asphalt, gravel.

- A third party identifier which shows how a user signed up.
- trafficcams -
- Indicates if a camera is being used as a traffic camera.
- type -
- Three definitions: [1] Indicates the method used to send the user's webcam information to Weather Underground; if the type is User Uniform Resource Locator (URL) then the camera data is sent via website. If the type is File Transfer Protocol (FTP), then the user sends the data using our FTP server. [2] The format or type of email sent -- for example, text or html. [3] Indicates a kind of account a user signed up for -- paid, Personal Weather Station , or webcam.
- tzName -
- The user's timezone.
U
- unit -
- The user's chosen measurement standard used for a given weather condition; for example, Fahrenheit or Celsius for temperature.
- Units -
- The unit of measurement a user has selected for use on wunderground.com, e.g., English, metric or hybrid.
- updated -
- This field shows the time when the image(s) from a camera were last updated.
- upId -
- An ID that links user profile information in two different wunderground.com data systems.
- uploadKey -
- A code of key users need to send their camere or Personal Weather Station information to Weather Underground
- uploadkey -
- A special code or key that enables a user to upload Personal Weather Station data to Weather Underground.
- userConsents -
- The name userConsents is the heading for a section that lists the consents the user has given to wunderground.com to access the user's data. Data types include data that is required for the site to function and optional data that enhances a user's site experience. If no information appears in the userConsents section, it means the user has not given access to any of the types of data.
- userConsents.functional-technologies -
- Indicates whether a user has given permission to wunderground.com to use location information from the user's browser to improve the function of the website: for example, to enhance forecast accuracy and measure site performance.
- userConsents.geographically-relevant-ads -
- Indicates whether or not a user granted permission for the site to use more specific and accurate location settings on the user's browser for the purposes of advertising. Partners may show ads for a user's current location to make the ads more relevant to the user.
- userConsents.interest-based-ads -
- Indicates if a user has a setting that allows our advertising partners to deliver ads and content personalized to the user's interests with the intention of creating a more enjoyable browsing experience. We learn about a user's interests from the user's activity on wunderground.com and across other apps and websites. A user can opt out of this consent setting at any time. - userConsents.required-technologies -
- Indicates whether a user has given permission to wunderground.com to use required cookies that are necessary for the website to work: for example, cookies that enable the site to secure a connection for transmitting webpage data and cookies that infer a user's general location in order to provide forecasts.
- userConsents.sale-of-data -
- Indicates if a user has or has not opted out of the sale of the user's personal information according the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). The CCPA defines “sell” and “sale” broadly. The Weather Channel does not sell your personal information as the term sell is commonly understood. But we do allow select advertising vendors to use your personal information for certain purposes other than providing and improving advertising services for our apps and websites. - Indicates a user's California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) preferences. The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) developed a standardized string of data, a cookie, that saves a user's CCPA preferences. An example of the usprivacy cookie is "1YNN". This string includes the following data: The first item in the string is the version of CCPA regulation (currently, it is version "1"). The second item indicates whether a user was shown CCPA notice on wunderground.com (this notice informs users that they can opt out of the sale of their data); values include Y/N. The third item indicates if a user has opted out of the sale of data; values include Y/N. The fourth item indicates if the publisher (The Weather Underground) signed IAB's limited service agreement; values include Y/N.

- A randomly generated code used to identify an unregistered device that uses wunderground.com. Registered users will get a Weather Underground User ID.

- A cookie indicating if a user has been migrated from the legacy Weather Underground website to the new website.
- wu.favs -
- A user's list of favorite cities on Weather Underground.

- This is an ID for a Personal Weather Station (PWS) that's associated with a specific city.
- wu.rc -
- Identifies cities recently viewed by the user on wunderground.com.
- wu.referrerUrl -
- Displays the URL from the webpage that referred user to the Weather Underground site.
- wu.stopTrackingRecents -
- A user's stored preference for weather location searches; wu.stopTrackingRecents indicates whether a user wants searched locations to be saved to the "Recents" list that appears at the bottom of the Search Locations box.
- wu.userHome -
- A geographic code that represents a user's preferred default location.
- wu.userId -
- A unique identifier associated with a Weather Underground account.
- wuID -
- A unique code that identifies a user of the Weather Underground.
- wund_id -
- A unique code that identifies a user's Weather Underground account.
- wundermap-currentLat -
- The Weather Underground Wundermap, found at https://www.wunderground.com/wundermap, has settings that a user can control. If, while using the Wundermap, a user chooses to "Save Pref," the map viewing area will be saved. wundermap-currentLat refers to the latitude at the center of saved Wundermap viewing area.
- wundermap-currentLng -
- The Weather Underground Wundermap, found at https://www.wunderground.com/wundermap, has settings that a user can control. If, while using the Wundermap, a user chooses to "Save Pref," the map viewing area will be saved. wundermap-currentLng refers to the longitude at the center of saved Wundermap viewing area.

- The Weather Underground Wundermap, found at https://www.wunderground.com/wundermap, has settings that a user can control. wundermap-fireOpacity refers to the Active Fire layer setting. The Active Fire layer shows current wildfires as an overlay on top of the Wundermap. The values for wundermap-fireOpacity go from 0 to 1, with 0 being the most transparent and 1 being the least transparent.

- The Weather Underground Wundermap, found at https://www.wunderground.com/wundermap, has settings that a user can control. wundermap-firePerimeter refers to the Fire Perimeter layer setting. The Fire Perimeter layer shows the outer edge of a wildfire as an overlay on top of the Wundermap. A value of "0" means the Fire Perimeter layer is turned off; "1" means the layer is turned on.

The Past Storms layer shows previous hurricanes as an overlay on top of the Wundermap. A value of "0" means the Past Storms layer is turned off; "1" means the layer is turned on.

- The Weather Underground Wundermap, found at https://www.wunderground.com/wundermap, has settings that a user can control. wundermap-layerAQ refers to the Air Quality layer setting. The Air Quality layer shows air quality as an overlay on top of the Wundermap. A value of "0" means the Air Quality layer is turned off; "1" means the layer is turned on.

The Coronavirus layer shows coronavirus data as an overlay on top of the Wundermap. A value of "0" means the Coronavirus layer is turned off; "1" means the layer is turned on.

The Hurricane layer shows current hurricanes as an overlay on top of the Wundermap. A value of "0" means the Hurricane layer is turned off; "1" means the layer is turned on.

The Lightning layer shows lightning strikes as an overlay on top of the Wundermap. A value of "0" means the Lightning layer is turned off; "1" means the layer is turned on.

- The Weather Underground Wundermap, found at https://www.wunderground.com/wundermap, has settings that a user can control. wundermap-layerRadar refers to the Radar layer setting. The Radar layer shows a radar image as an overlay on top of the Wundermap. A value of "0" means the Radar layer is turned off; "1" means the layer is turned on.

- The Weather Underground Wundermap, found at https://www.wunderground.com/wundermap, has settings that a user can control. wundermap-layerSatellite refers to the Satellite layer setting. The Satellite layer shows a weather satellite image as an overlay on top of the Wundermap. A value of "0" means the Satellite layer is turned off; "1" means the layer is turned on.

- The Weather Underground Wundermap, found at https://www.wunderground.com/wundermap, has settings that a user can control. wundermap-layerSevere refers to the Severe layer setting. The Severe layer shows severe weather as an overlay on top of the Wundermap. A value of "0" means the Severe layer is turned off; "1" means the layer is turned on.

- The Weather Underground Wundermap, found at https://www.wunderground.com/wundermap, has settings that a user can control. wundermap-layerSST refers to the Sea Surface Temperature (SST) layer setting. The SST layer shows sea and surface temperatures as an overlay on top of the Wundermap. A value of "0" means the SST layer is turned off; "1" means the layer is turned on.

A value of "0" means the Sea Surface Temperatures Anomaly layer is turned off; "1" means the layer is turned on.

The Storm Reports layer shows current storm reports as an overlay on top of the Wundermap. A value of "0" means the Storm Reports layer is turned off; "1" means the layer is turned on.

The Storm Surge layer shows a storm surge data as an overlay on top of the Wundermap. A value of "0" means the Storm Surge layer is turned off; "1" means the layer is turned on.

- The Weather Underground Wundermap, found at https://www.wunderground.com/wundermap, has settings that a user can control. wundermap-layerTornado refers to the Tornado layer setting. The Tornado layer shows active tornado watches and warnings as an overlay on top of the Wundermap. A value of "0" means the Tornado layer is turned off; "1" means the layer is turned on.
